A Developmentally Informed Workshop for Parents

Parenting Through The Stages Workshop

Parenting can feel confusing — even when you’re doing your best. This workshop offers a clear framework to understand your child’s behavior and your own reactions, so you can parent with greater clarity, confidence, and connection.

WHAT THIS WORKSHOP IS

Parenting Through the Stages is a psychoeducational workshop grounded in Erik Erikson’s stages of emotional development.

You’ll learn:

• What your child is developmentally working on

• Why certain behaviors are normal — even when challenging

• How your own experiences shape your reactions

Practical ways to respond without escalating power struggles

This is not therapy and not about diagnosing problems. It’s about understanding development so you can parent with more clarity, confidence, and intention.

Who It’s For & What You’ll Learn

Who This Workshop is For

This workshop is designed for:

  • Parents and caregivers of children from infancy through adolescence
  • Parents who feel stuck in repeating conflicts
  • Parents who want to be thoughtful and responsive—not perfect
  • Parents who notice that their child’s behavior sometimes brings up strong emotional reactions

You do not need:

  • A background in psychology
  • To be experiencing a “crisis”
  • To share personal details beyond what feels comfortable
What We'll Cover

The workshop follows your child’s developmental journey, using Erikson’s stages as a guide.

Topics include:

  • Attachment and trust in infancy
  • Autonomy and independence in toddlers

  • Initiative, confidence, and guilt in early childhood

  • Competence and self-worth in school-age children

  • Identity and independence in adolescence

  • How unfinished experiences from our own childhood can show up in parenting

  • Practical tools for responding to everyday challenges with developmental insight

Each session includes:

  • Clear, accessible teaching

  • Guided reflection (private and optional)

  • Real-life parenting examples

  • Simple, practical take-home ideas

What You Will Walk Away With

This is not about doing everything “right.” It’s about learning how development works—and giving yourself more room to respond thoughtfully.

By the end of the workshop, parents often report:

  • Feeling less reactive and more grounded

  • A greater understanding of their child’s emotional needs

  • Increased confidence in setting limits without shame

  • More compassion for themselves as parents

  • Language to explain parenting decisions with clarity and calm

If you’re already in therapy, this workshop can complement that work. If you’re not, it can still be deeply meaningful and useful.

What Makes This Workshop Different

Most parenting advice focuses on behavior. This workshop focuses on developmental needs.

Instead of asking: “How do I stop this behavior?”

We explore: “What does my child need to learn right now—and how can I support that?”

You’ll learn to recognize the key developmental questions behind common struggles, such as:

  • “Can I trust that my needs will be met?”

  • “Can I do things for myself?”

  • “Can I try new things without feeling ashamed?”

  • “Am I capable?”

  • “Who am I becoming?”

When you understand the why, your responses naturally change.
